SNAIL TRAIL:

The end of August 2023 I did a practice hike leaving from my house door near Moosburg, going along the Isar River through Munich and up to Mittenwald in the mountains on the border to Austria, 197 kilometers. Unfortunately my well traveled hiking shoes were so worn out that I could no longer take a level step in them. So I made a quick decision to buy a new pair of hiking shoes before leaving for this trip. That was a painful decision! On the fifth day I hiked through Bad Tölz on my way to a water reserve up in the mountains. Every step was a painful squeeze on the expanding blisters on my feet. I was walking on a grainy bicycle path in the sun when I noticed a snail struggling to make its way across the path. It almost got smashed by bicycles racing by from both directions. I picked the snail up and put it in the grass and in the shade on the other side of the path. I felt like that struggling snail that was carrying everything it needed for survival on its back. In that moment I sensed God speaking to my heart… Yes, the journey to the coast of Spain will not be easy, but God will be with me and pick me up when I need it. That is how the name “Snail Trail” came about. God’s calling in one’s life and the development and living out of that call takes time, sometimes a lot of time like a snail trail. I have learned that God is very patient, that He is there, and that when we seek Him, He will give us grace and strength to live out the purpose for why He has created us.

ABOUT ME:

In 1977 I was part or a ten week bicycle outreach trip from London to Rome with nine other students from my Bible College. We had meetings here and there along the way including a weeklong stay in Munich. On this trip the eyes of my heart were opened to the spiritual need and challenge in Europe. I began to pray for Europe, and the more I did, the more I sensed a call to invest my life here in Europe. After completing Bible College I came to Munich to learn some basic German. What was supposed to be a trip of just three months has ended up being the rest of my life. Since 43 years I have been living and serving Jesus in Germany.
