Gonni - Larisa

Photo 3: Today I start a three day journey through what I call the wilderness. There are not many villages between the starting and stopping points of each stretch. There will not be much shade. There will be no other people walking the paths or roads. No tourist traveler is riding a bike here.

Photo 4: I see these holy shrines everywhere. Some are well kept, others are just shadows of what they used to be. Usually they contain one or more icons. Some will have a small bottle of oil for burning candles.

Photo 5: I made it through the first stretch of the wilderness to the city of Larissa. The hotel where I wanted to stay the night was no longer in operation. I saw a few matresses under the roof and homeless people getting ready to spend the night there. Fortunately there was another inexpensive hotel right next to it. The room had a shower, comfortable bed and a small refigerator. I did not need anything more than that other than a good night's sleep. Tomorrow will be my longest stretch through the wilderness and the second longest of Snail-Trail 2.
