Dinant - Han-Sur-Lesse

Photo 1: I always feel a bit of tension when I see signs like this blocking the hiking path. What does it really mean? Can I somehow still get through? (I did.) Is there a bridge out? (There was one, but no problem there.) Is there some kind of road work being done? (Maybe, but not today, thankfully.) Will someone get upset if they see me walking through? (No one was around this time.) Could there br danger? (I have had that before, but not this time.) I am always happy when I make it through the "no passing" zone.

Photo 3: ...and up on the cliff was this castle. I am glad I did not take the detour. Who knows where it would have taken me, and it would have been much longer.

Photo 4: Ever since Brighton Beach in England, the off-the-path warning signal on my hiking app is no longer working. I really have to pay attention now when there is a turn coming up. Sometimes it is easy to oversee a small foot path or your mind says, "No, that can't be the way...", when it is. That happened today. I missed a turn that would have put me on a path with a more gradual incline up to the top of this cliff. Instead I ended up by the bridge down by the river below and had to make a climb up a steep path to get back on track. My alpine hiking experiences came to good use here. I was so glad that Jesus was walking with me!

This morning I had a short God-talk with a young couple at the campground where I stayed and at lunchtime with an older couple where I bought a sandwich for lunch. Both couples were from Holland. At the campground the girl saw the Camino logo on my hat and asked whether I had walked the Way of St. James. At the restaurant the wife asked me about my big backpack and wanted to know if I was on a long journey. It is always intetesting to me to see how these conversations get started.
